Just to the west of our house, inside what we call “the middle”, we have an huge maple. It is a magnificent tree! I am sure it is well over 100 feet tall, and the trunk is easily four or more feet in diameter. This particular maple has very long branches that reach straight up towards the sky. Every so often the wind rips through and knocks small branches from it. Some hang suspended in the air by lower branches, and over time eventually fall to the ground. Frighteningly, many branches hit the ground like arrows and puncture it by 3-6 inches!
